– by Tom Balek
In 2008 Americans were in the mood for change. The economy was in trouble. We were threatened by rogue regimes and mired in
overseas military ventures, costly in both lives and dollars. Corruption and self-interest abounded, both in the public and private
sectors. Our government continued to grow and gobble more of the economic “pie”, leaving less pie for citizens and more restrictions
on personal freedoms. cont....
WHY I JOINED THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT – by Tom Balek
I was never one to look for trouble. As a young adult I believed that most Americans were well-intentioned, wanting the best for each
other and success for our nation as a whole. I was aware that there were growing political differences between citizens, but thought
that the best ideas would win the day, and the United States would continue to thrive. Our nation had so much to be proud of, and had
done so much good for us and for the world. What could there be to worry about? cont....
The Welfare State (interpretation of Psalm 23)
"The GOVERNMENT is my shepherd: I need not work!
It alloweth me to lie down on a good job;
It leadeth me beside still factories;
It destroyeth my initiative.
It leadeth me in the path of a parasite for politic’s sake;
Yea, though I walk through the valley of laziness and deficit-spending, I will fear no evil, for the government is with me.
It prepareth an economic Utopia for me, by appropriating the earnings of my own grandchildren.
It filleth my head with false security;
My inefficiency runneth over.
Surely the government should care for me all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell in a fool’s paradise forever"

MACROECONOMICS 101 - THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE ANT
By Tom Balek
Basic macroeconomics is simple, elegant, and universally understood. Children easily grasp the meaning of the “grasshopper and the
ant” fable. It’s clear to them that the grasshopper was foolish to goof around all summer, while the wise ant was rewarded for working
hard and storing up food for the winter.
This economic reality is the underpinning of successful people and societies. The notion that “hard work pays off” was the foundation
of American growth, and a source of national pride. The original concept focused on individual economic success. With maximum
freedom, competition and opportunity, the sum of many individual talents would improve the standard of living for all. And the rewards
of individual successes would be distributed through employment, better products, and charity.
But then something changed.
Political leaders learned the power of human jealousy. They discovered that some people were “grasshoppers” who were envious of
the hard-working “ants” and their success. They found that they could empower themselves by promising to confiscate the fruits of the
ants’ labor and give it to the grasshoppers. In a world where grasshoppers and ants had equal voting rights, the number of
grasshoppers grew until they outnumbered the ants. The power of the political class also grew and the pure, simple and effective
free-market macroeconomic model was replaced by a jumble of social policies absent of economic merit.
If we hope for an improved standard of living for our children and grandchildren, we had better learn (and teach) that economics is our
top priority, not politics and dependence on central government. A prosperous nation is made up of strong, successful individuals,
who will eagerly and voluntarily cooperate to meet mutual needs.

congressman can be up to 30 years in jail, but the penalty for a congressman lying to you is another two years in office.”

Adrie Min's Lincoln day address 2010 “Wake up call for Americans!”
This speech is based largely on my own bias towards authority and government and a looking at the facts that world history presents
to us. I want to present these views, so we may consider the consequences of our laisser-faire (non-interference) attitudes towards our
government. cont....
I want to thank you for creating a Tea Party in Harlowton. I watch your website all the time. Even though I am not a member I am with
you all the way and wanted to thank your people for paying attention to the water issue. I was pleased about what you wrote about our
Mayor and Council members. There are many more people that are with you than you know but are afraid of backlash to get involved.
Good work
* Adrie is a voice that comes from a place where he now sees America headed. Take heed.
